Where the Magic Happens

September 7, 2011 § 1 Comment

I’ve walked into way too many mens’ bedroom and thought “what women would want to come back to this?”  What do I see?  Mattress sitting on the floor, bed not made,  dingy sheets .  You can get away with that while your still in college but you’re not anymore, and haven’t been for a while.

Start looking like an adult.  And then maybe a real woman would want to sleep with you in your bed.

  • Bedframe.  Even if it’s the simple frame with the tiny wheels on it that keeps it of the ground.  Make sure it’s on a box spring and get a bedskirt.  Or one of those “eastern” style platforms where you don’t need a box spring and are low to the ground.
  • Clean full set of high thread count sheets.  Let’s not mix and match.  A full set of sheets should include at least two pillow covers, a flat and fitted sheet.  High thread count keeps them silky smooth like a woman’s body.  Have at least two sets to cycle them.  Clean every week.  Men tend to choose a dark color because it’s “masculine.”  I’d avoid a solid dark color as they show “stains” more easily.  A black light will show the stain but so will your navy blue sheets.
  • Down pillows and comforter.  You spend much of your life in your bed.  Why not live a little luxuriously.  You can find a good set of down pillows and comforters at a Macy’s home sale or on overstock.com– just read the product reviews.
  • Duvet.  Now that you’ve invested in a nice down comforter protect it with a duvet cover.  Same thing applies here- get a high thread count.  Choose a pattern that compliments your sheet set yet still masculine.  Wash every 2-4 weeks.
  • Mattress Toppers.  Not a must but it will add that extra layer of comfort.  There are several choices to choose from.  Ranging from memory foam toppers, foam egg crate, down topper, quilted cover.  Something as cheap as a simple egg crate foam topper will make the world of difference and can be picked up anywhere from Target to Bed Bath & Beyond.  And a little more cushion for the pushing never hurt.

That all being said- you should make your bed everyday before you leave for the day.  It takes about 2 minutes to pull your sheets and blanket up and is so much nicer to come back.  Especially when you bring a girl back- she doesn’t want to see your body outline in your sheets from when you got up in the morning.  No promises on increasing your luck in the sack, but I promise you’ll soon love your bed way more than you did before.

No I Don’t Want to See Your Toes Wiggle in Those Shoes

September 6, 2011 § 3 Comments

The era when Tevas was cool has long been over.  So first point being, these things are no longer cool to wear on the casual.  Just go with the simple thong sandal.  They are especially not to be worn with socks!  Why would one even be wearing sandals if they are going to be worn socks?!

Tevas is a rare sight to be seen these days so I’m glad to know it’s going into extinction.  But the new geek trend is Vibram Five Fingers.  You either need to bear your toes or hide them.  None of this individually wrapped toes in a shoe nonsense!  Yes I have heard all the benefits of how great it is for your foot.  Still does not justify wearing them out in public- especially as your everyday footwear.  Use them for the gym, hiking, water sports, etc.  I get that, but don’t be going out and buying the suede ones as your business casual attire.  NOT OKAY!  No one needs to see your toes wiggling in a board meeting.  And if it was a recommendation by your podiatrist then you need to be wearing your doctors note around your neck so people know you have a good reason.

Clueless? Let the Mannequins Help

Need help figuring out what to buy?  Don’t know what is in trend or in fashion?  Not all of us are lucky to have a personal shopper.  The next best thing to do is check out the mannequins.  See what they are wearing.  Clothes that are displayed on the mannequin are styled by professionals.  Their job is to outfit them in their hottest items that are in trend right now.  And take note of not just what they are wearing but how they are wearing it so when you take that piece of clothing home you know the appropriate way to wear it.

  • Is the shirt tucked in?
  • Are they wearing those pants with a belt?
  • Does it have to match?
  • What kind of shoe are they wearing with those bottoms?
  • How did they outfit those two colors/patterns together?
  • How did they  layer those pieces together?

Don’t necessarily walk out the store twins with the mannequin but instead take a few tips from them.

Don’t Ask

Never ask a woman during sex if it’s good.  She will let you know if it is.

Ewww to Mildew

Does this look familiar?  Your wet towel left on the floor all day building up mildew.  Nothing more unattractive and sickening than walking into a guys bathroom with the stench of mildew hitting your nose.  Mildew is tough to get rid of.  Your best bet is to keep your towels from getting moldy in the first place.  Always hang them up to dry!

If your towels are at the place of no return- get new ones!  You can pick up a new set for cheap at Ross or Marshalls.  And don’t forget to have extra for when ones in the hamper or guests including hand towels for guests and yourself to dry your hands off.

Need a Reservation?

There are all sorts of deals out there with Living Social, Groupon, Google Deals.  But it’s kinda tacky to take a girl out on a date and whip out your Groupon when the bill arrives.  Instead book your reservations through savored.com and save 30% off your food and drinks.   Savored brings you access to insider pricing with the most popular restaurants across the United States.  They make the dining experiences of their members more convenient and more affordable by partnering with the finest restaurants  – from the storied icons to the up and coming gems.  Their website has great user interface where you can search reservations by party number and time as well as neighborhood, cuisine, or scene.  Bookings are $10 with a guarantee if your party’s savings don’t exceed your booking fee, they’ll refund the price of your reservation.

The Basics for your Face

September 4, 2011 § Leave a comment

Almost every guy I meet doesn’t take care of his face which is the first thing people see when they meet you.  Their daily care routine is using a bar of soap to wash their face and that’s about it.  No one is getting any younger here except maybe Benjamin Button so preventative care is important.  Here is a list of basic products every guy should include as part of their daily personal care routine that can be picked up at any drug store:

  • St. Ives Apricot Scrub (use weekly- gently exfoliates dull surfaces to reveal smooth, radiant, healthy skin)
  • Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser (formulated for dermatologists as a gentle, non-irritating cleanser for normal to oily skin)
  • Neutrogena Triple Protect Face Lotion, SPF 20 (A lightweight non-greasy lotion that moisturizes and protects a man’s face in just one easy step.  Any moisturizer you choose to use should have SPF.)
  • Aveeno Positively Smooth Shaving Cream (must use shaving cream not soap!)
  • Reach Gental Gum Care with Fluoride mint woven dental floss (Can’t forget to floss.  Try to make it every day.)
  • Crest White Strips (Keep them chompers pearly white.  Teeth are so important.  No one likes a yellow smile.)

These products or an equivalent will keep that face looking radiant and handsome.
