Just Do It

October 10, 2011 § Leave a comment

My friend described me like Nike.  I say I’m going to do something and “Just Do It.”  And not a lot of people do.  Most are a lot of talk and no action.  Nothings worse than someone who doesn’t do what they say.  More than anything you become a disappointment and unreliable in others eyes.  Don’t be that guy.

An Ode to the Mock

Losing a boss like Stevie J is tragic.  I bet he was wearing his iconic black mock turtleneck in his last hours.  You will be missed.  Wozniak on the other hand could use a few tips.

Jjimjilbang

I am going to let the secret out.  Because I’ve had someone accuse my race of keeping this a hidden secret from the white man.  This is how we keep ourselves so soft and clean- the jjimjilbang.  Derived from the words meaning heated bath-jjimjilbang is a large gender-segregated bathhouse furnished with hot tubs, showers, and massage tables.  And no it’s not that kind of massage parlor that ends with a happy ending.  You can pay a flat fee to get access to their facilities or get one of their services.  I highly recommend a body scrub and massage which is around $90 for 90 min (what a deal!).  I like to describe it as getting your body detailed- getting at every nook and cranny.  You’ll pretty much be disgusted with yourself after the body scrub as you see hundreds if not thousands of what look like eraser shavings get rubbed off your body and wonder how you never did this before.  There are a couple locations within the bay area which I recommend:

  • Imperial Spa in San Francisco which is a bit more crowded and a smaller facility
  • PSY Health Town in San Leandro which is a bit of a better value and much larger faciltiy

You Got a Bush Too

October 5, 2011 § Leave a comment

Women are expected to tame their body hair and so should guys.  Overall body hair is one thing but you should keep your bush down there nice and tidy.  It will profit your personal hygiene, appearance, and likely your sex life.  The best way to deal with it is scissors or a beard trimmer.  Don’t shave it which will only leave it spiky.  Plus they say it makes your junk look bigger in proportion, right?  It only makes sense.  Ask yourself this: do you prefer when your girl’s bush is groomed or when it’s unkempt and hairy?  She doesn’t want to be fishing out your curly q’s from her mouth later.

It’s the Thought that Counts

October 4, 2011 § Leave a comment

It’s the damn truth.  And if you’re dating someone who thinks it’s the price tag that counts than you are dating the wrong type of woman.  Gifts are not the easiest things to choose.  But avoid the generic type such as: perfume, jewelry, flowers, or gift cards.  Unless you know for sure exactly what within that genre she loves or been wanting.  Perfume and jewelry are particularly difficult to pick out because they are personal to ones style and hard to pick the right one.  Nothing is worse than a gift you don’t want.  Here are some tips:

  1. Start noticing things.  Pay attention to her style and colors she wears.  Check out what type of magazines, books, or collections she may have.  Does she have any hobbies?  Check if she has a gift registry or wishlist online.  Listen for any remarks or cues.
  2. Ask subtle questions.  Steer conversation to reveal gift ideas.  Ask them for advice on a gift for someone else.  Or what they’d do if they got a bonus or won the lottery.  The best gifts are things someone wouldn’t buy themselves but really want.
  3. Enlist a double agent.  Don’t be afraid to ask for help from someone who may know her better.  Her BFF or co-workers.
  4. Make a note of it!  You’re likely to forget or have thought of a great idea 3 months before her birthday and by the time it rolls around it’s left your memory.

Some thoughtful examples of ideas:

  • If she likes to cook buy her a really nice chef’s knife, cute apron, or couples cookbook so you can cook together
  • If she’s more of a homebody she may enjoy a good board game or puzzle
  • If she has a sweet tooth make her her favorite dessert or buy her favorite candy bars
  • Something that compliments her hobby and she’s been complaining about that she’s needed.

Wire vs Plastic

October 3, 2011 § Leave a comment

I am a strong believer in the hotness factor of plastic frames on a guy.  I prefer the rectangular but I can go for a round frame.  The year ain’t 1993 so replace those coke bottle lenses in round wire frames for some thinner lens, sophisticated, tortoise shell, rectangular frames.  Most people tend to gravitate toward black frames which can be harsh on the face and are a statement maker.  Try shades of brown or tortoise shell.  You’ll get me to do a double take.

Funk You

September 29, 2011 § Leave a comment

Indoor environmental quality is as important as outdoor.  I hate walking into a stuffy room that’s got the funk.  Keep it fresh and airy by leaving your window cracked and dehumidified.  Might be a good idea to get an air purifier as well.  Damp, stuffy, funk comes from a few places.  Clothes and bedding, humidity from the shower, and dirty/funky shoes/clothes.  Candles help eliminate the funk as well- just don’t get something too aromatic.  Plants also help make more of the oxygen we like to breath as well as soften up a space with a little green. I practically kill every plant I’ve owned but succulents are easy to maintain and do the same job.  if you’re not sure if your room has a funk because you’ve become numb to it ask a friend.

Grown-Ass Men on Razor Scooters

This is a topic that I see well too often.  And as I google image searched for pics to accompany my post I found this great blog that summarizes why this should be a federal offense.  Go big or go home and get a bike or just use your damn legs.

Footwear Faux Pas

I don’t know what it is with men and making the worst fashion statements with their footwear.  Your shoes are one the greatest places to express yourself because men’s wear isn’t as dynamic as women’s wear.  So shoes are the best place to get a little funky and stylish.  Treat it like an accessory.  Let’s go over the big NO NOs once more for those of you who don’t know:

  • Teva like shoes/sandals (especially with socks)
  • Vibram Five Fingers
  • Hiking boots
  • Mandals
  • Running shoes (leave them for the gym or for a run)
Footwear trends:
  1. Dock shoes
  2. Chukkah boot
  3. Driving loafer
  4. Distressed utility boot
  5. Toe detail
  6. Urban sneaker
