FX Comedies

TV today is filled with reality trash and talent competitions.  There is not much good TV out there anymore.  But there is still hope!  FX has a series of great comedies to check out.  Season 7 of Always Sunny in Philadelphia premiers tomorrow night at 10pm followed by a new episode or Archer.

I heart mid-century modern furniture.  The post war developments in modern design, architecture, and urban development are recognizable for their simple, democratic design, and natural shapes.  Many of the pieces of furniture, which were typified by their clean, sweeping lines, were of very high quality.  As a result, excellent examples of vintage Scandinavian Modern furniture are still available in usable condition.  These are quality pieces you will have for a lifetime and worth the investment but sometimes out of our price range as young professionals.  You may not be able to afford an Eames chair but here are a couple great places in San Francisco that have a great selection of quality pieces at affordable prices.

Wash & Fold

Who really likes doing laundry?  I read a craiglist post of someone who hated to do their laundry so much they were willing to barter sexual favors for someone to wash their clothes.  I’d say it’s not worth it.  But it is worth it to just pay someone to do your laundry for you.  Especially for guys whose clothes are not delicate and are just your basic cottons.  Considering the time and money you spend at the laundry mat, it’s worth it.  You can take your laundry to a dry cleaner for this service or a Laundry Locker where you can just drop your dirty clothes off in a locker and pick it up later in the same locker freshly cleaned and folded.  Prices range around $1.50/lb.

Keep Them Trimmed

September 10, 2011 § 1 Comment

It’s a big turn off when a guy has gnarly nails with dirt all up in them.  Keep your nails trimmed.  Both your finger and toes.  The white of your nail should stay  minimal and a smooth edge.  If you are not skilled enough to cut them smooth use a nail file.  Don’t be embarrassed to go get your nails cut at a salon.  They’ll get all that jam out that you can’t get to and oh does it feel so good.  Should be only $30 for the manicure and pedicure.  Includes soaking, massaging, and moisturizing.

No more organic coke spoons please.

Don’t Let Chivalry Die

It’s almost extinct so when a guy makes those simple courtly gestures I take notice.  Keep these in mind throughout the day:

  • Open the door for a lady
  • Let all the women into the elevator first
  • Offer your seat up to a woman on the bus
  • Walk your date or female friend to her car/apartment/house, especially at night
  • Open her car door for her first before you get in
  • Offer to pay (though I don’t believe the man should ALWAYS have to pay for the bill but at least offer)
  • If she’s carrying something heavy give her a hand
  • Offer her your coat or sweater if she is cold

Bike Storage for Small Spaces

Apartments in San Francisco or any major city do not have much of what we call storage.  Here is a great solution to solve your problem of where to put your bike.  This convenient stand holds two bikes without taking up much space and does not require any type of permanent mounting so it saves you $$ coming out of your deposit.

Are Those… Jorts???

I know the Indian Summer of San Francisco is warming up but please don’t be caught dead in these.  And if you have a pair don’t give them away- destroy them so they don’t end up on anyone else.  Really there isn’t an appropriate occasion to be wearing denim shorts except if you consider yourself white trash and planning on going to the State Fair.

At the first firm I worked out, Sing, this old Chinese man who drew all our renderings by hand, rolled into work wearing acid washed denim shorts.  Rich who was the vice principle at the firm did a double take as Sing walked by and said “who does Sing think he is wearing shorts?”  In my mind I was thinking “let’s be more clear- who does he think he is wearing ACID WASHED DENIM shorts!”  And the only reason he could get away with it because 1. He was Asian, 2. He was old and old people can get away with just about anything.

Share this post with your friends who are guilty of this fashion no no.

To Pleat or Not to Pleat

September 8, 2011 § Leave a comment

That shouldn’t even be a question.  If you are under the age of 40 it should be an automatic no.  Pleats are not very flattering and it shows your age or lack of youth.  Always go with flat fronts.  Old fat men with FUPAs wear pleated pants.
