Where the Magic Happens

I’ve walked into way too many mens’ bedroom and thought “what women would want to come back to this?”  What do I see?  Mattress sitting on the floor, bed not made,  dingy sheets .  You can get away with that while your still in college but you’re not anymore, and haven’t been for a while.

Start looking like an adult.  And then maybe a real woman would want to sleep with you in your bed.

  • Bedframe.  Even if it’s the simple frame with the tiny wheels on it that keeps it of the ground.  Make sure it’s on a box spring and get a bedskirt.  Or one of those “eastern” style platforms where you don’t need a box spring and are low to the ground.
  • Clean full set of high thread count sheets.  Let’s not mix and match.  A full set of sheets should include at least two pillow covers, a flat and fitted sheet.  High thread count keeps them silky smooth like a woman’s body.  Have at least two sets to cycle them.  Clean every week.  Men tend to choose a dark color because it’s “masculine.”  I’d avoid a solid dark color as they show “stains” more easily.  A black light will show the stain but so will your navy blue sheets.
  • Down pillows and comforter.  You spend much of your life in your bed.  Why not live a little luxuriously.  You can find a good set of down pillows and comforters at a Macy’s home sale or on overstock.com– just read the product reviews.
  • Duvet.  Now that you’ve invested in a nice down comforter protect it with a duvet cover.  Same thing applies here- get a high thread count.  Choose a pattern that compliments your sheet set yet still masculine.  Wash every 2-4 weeks.
  • Mattress Toppers.  Not a must but it will add that extra layer of comfort.  There are several choices to choose from.  Ranging from memory foam toppers, foam egg crate, down topper, quilted cover.  Something as cheap as a simple egg crate foam topper will make the world of difference and can be picked up anywhere from Target to Bed Bath & Beyond.  And a little more cushion for the pushing never hurt.

That all being said- you should make your bed everyday before you leave for the day.  It takes about 2 minutes to pull your sheets and blanket up and is so much nicer to come back.  Especially when you bring a girl back- she doesn’t want to see your body outline in your sheets from when you got up in the morning.  No promises on increasing your luck in the sack, but I promise you’ll soon love your bed way more than you did before.

I can attest to the value of investing in a “hotel luxury linens.” If you spend a third of your 24 hr day sleeping, you might as well be as comfy as possible. Go big or go home!
